Episode Transcript
[00:00:00] Speaker A: Hello and welcome to our very first Session Zero for our brand new Tales from Elsewhere Sanctuary.
Very big welcome to everyone who's joining us today.
If you don't know who I am, my name is Nate. I'm not the usual GM of these adventures, but for the next 20 episodes I will now be the GM for these, for this tales that will be going on from January Roundabout to the end of May. So I hope you'll all enjoy this. We're gonna going to start off with Sess 0. It's going to be a little bit different from most Session Zeros. We are obviously going to introduce all the characters, but there will be a tiny little bit of RP to sort of get everyone to where I need them to be for session one.
But before we start with that, obviously we've got a lot of regular faces that we see here today, but if you don't know who we are, we are the explorers of Elsewhere. We run a whole plethora of different TTRPG systems and majority of the time they are set in the world of Elsewhere, which is the, the brainchild of Dan, but is also community developed. And so everything that sort of comes up in the world has all been created by the community and the players obviously.
So we are going to be playing the system Dagger Heart. We played it last year for, for the Campaign 3 and we've also test run it before and I'm a particular big fan of it and so I wanted to run a small campaign using Dagger Heart still and hopefully leading up to the release of their next lot of classes and cards and and such like that. So keep an eye out for that. I think Roundabout may time, that's when that's coming out.
So yes, if you're liking this, subscribe to us. Like the video, hit the notification button. And if you are watching this as a member, thank you so much, we really, really appreciate it. But if you're not watching this as a member, just to let you know that EPIS will come out a week early for members. So if you particularly like this episode and want to know what's going to happen in the next episode, it is more than likely that it's already been released for members. So if you've got a spare couple of quid to spend, and that's not only YouTube, that's on Patreon as well.
So if you've got a couple of quid to spare, it really helps with the channel. So please, if you can, that would be awesome.
Yes. Now, without further ado, I am going to introduce everyone. So we'll redo, we'll introduce some regular faces to the channel. First off. Hi. Aio.
[00:02:36] Speaker B: Hello.
[00:02:37] Speaker A: Hey. Hey. How's it going?
[00:02:38] Speaker C: It's good, thank you. Thank you for having me for this. Exciting, exciting, Spooky. Don't know what this is really going to be. Little campaign. Very excited.
[00:02:49] Speaker A: Wonderful, Wonderful to have you back. Hello, Georgia.
[00:02:52] Speaker D: Hello, Nate.
[00:02:53] Speaker A: Hello.
[00:02:54] Speaker D: Thank you for having me back as well.
[00:02:55] Speaker A: Oh, always, always.
Not so always. Hi, Olivia.
[00:02:59] Speaker E: Yeah, here I am again.
[00:03:02] Speaker A: There you are.
It's, it's a, it's contract.
Yeah. Packaged it and obviously we have g, we have DM Dan. I called you GM Dan there.
[00:03:17] Speaker F: Hello. Thank you for having me back.
[00:03:20] Speaker A: Well, I kind of feel like if I didn't have you back, you'd be wondering what the bloody I was doing.
And a welcoming face back to the channel. Hello, Julia.
[00:03:31] Speaker F: Hi.
[00:03:32] Speaker B: It's really nice to be back. I'm not on the channel as much these days so it's great to be involved.
[00:03:37] Speaker A: Yay. And you've played a little bit of Dagger Heart before. You played one of the live streams
[00:03:42] Speaker B: sessions Halloween last year and you're excited
[00:03:47] Speaker A: to get back into Daggerheart?
[00:03:48] Speaker B: Incredibly excited, yes. Yeah, I, I, I, I do not know what's going on nearly as well as you guys do, so I'll be playing catch up. But yeah, definitely. Really psyched to be here.
[00:04:00] Speaker A: Amazing. Amazing.
So without further ado, we will start getting involved in where we find your characters before they head off on what will be happening in session one.
Like most of the Tales adventures we start in Avmoor, it is the home of the Explorers Guild, the Explorers Initiative and has been the, the centerpiece of the redevelopment of Elsewhere for the past three years.
And it's not, it's not an unlikely sight to see new Explorers. New, well, new and old explorers sort of venturing off through the portals to rediscover places that may have been lost to the cataclysm of what was the Eschaton.
We find ourselves in a very sort of like regal park near, sort of fairly near to where many of the Explorers barracks are currently situated.
But you can definitely tell that this park was sort of recreated as a sort of memorial to those who were lost during the war and during the Escalation Baton and a sort of beacon of, of sort of new hope for this new elsewhere.
And there's sort of generally people. It's a nice sunny day, blue skies, a couple of clouds sort of scattered in the sky and you can see just sort of like random people, families Going on sort of like about their days.
But laying on the grass with his.
With his hands sort of like resting behind his head, just enjoying sort of like the cool grass and the warm sun looking up at the sky and just enjoying sort of like the peaceful.
The peaceful serenity of this park is a young seraphim.
Theo, would you like to introduce your character to us?
[00:06:27] Speaker C: I will, yes.
So this, this young man laid on the grass is pally.
Pali is, I imagine, just based upon your introduction to him. He's still in his.
His usual garb, which is a kind of worn but well loved tabard with kind of moon and star designs. He has a head of hair which is like an undercut with like twisty dark hair, golden eyes.
He's very. He is. He has a very friendly demeanor, a very affable face, very charming to look at.
Quite young, about 19 years old and will always have his equipment on him. So as well as his sun and moon garb, he has an axe and a shield which have similar kind of regalia and theming.
And yeah, as you say, he will be enjoying the world around him as he has a quiet moment in the park.
[00:07:32] Speaker A: So what made you choose a seraph this time round?
[00:07:37] Speaker C: Well, I got a little taste of being a seraph at the end of Campaign 3 because I multiclassed Cal as a seraph and obviously I'm aware of Azakar as a seraph from the Ta Bas where. So I've been kind of used to what those spells and those like movements look like within a campaign. And I think it's one of the ones that we haven't explored as much in the Dagger Heart system. And I felt it'd be really nice to explore that.
And yeah, I think there's a lot to play with. I think there's a lot of options that you can do to kind of. Because it is very similar to a paladin and a cleric in. In D and D. But you can feel like you can flavor it however you want and that's kind of the route I'm going with. So, yeah, it was a very exciting. It's very easy to choose. I was like, this is kind of what I want to do. I'm going to play into that.
[00:08:34] Speaker A: And you're also playing. You're playing a wolfkin.
[00:08:36] Speaker C: I am.
I really loved Vanya when we did Tales.
And it's not really one of the races I know much about. So it was a kind of a good excuse to learn more about who they are and what they do and like, try to see what kind of character I would build from that as well.
[00:08:56] Speaker A: So what. What history are you. Are you happy telling us about?
Pali and.
[00:09:03] Speaker C: Yeah, so Pali is a soldier in the. The War of Dragons, but he.
He's been in as a soldier. He didn't really.
He wasn't in the war very long because of his age. So he kind of snuck in the last minute. Very much wanted the experience, wanted to be involved, but was basically told no at every turn. So he is a soldier boy. That is kind of all he knows. So working as an explorer now, which is what he's doing, is kind of a new direction for him.
And, yeah, this has lots of baggage and a bit of a chip of. In shoulder regarding the war, which we will definitely get into, I'm sure.
But, yeah, likes a bit of a golden retriever. He likes to help people if they put up with a good fit, that he would become an explorer afterwards, after the eschaton, and very keen to help.
But, yeah, that's all I'm gonna say
[00:10:03] Speaker A: tonight because, I mean, he definitely seems like, quite different from especially like the two characters that you've played in Dagger Heart so far. So obviously Cal, and probably more different from Cal. Yes.
And then very much slightly from Cooper as well.
[00:10:21] Speaker C: Yeah, Cooper, the little criminal, Rat man and Cal, the kind of like.
The kind of like.
I'm trying to think of the word now. Like, I don't know, stoic.
Not stoics the word, but also, like, he was kind of done with following orders. He was just kind of. He just didn't really know who he was anymore. So he was just like, sure, whatever.
Very. Like, the word is definitely gone. I will remember it later. But it's like just following on autopilot where, like, Pally resigned. Resigned is probably the closest to the word I'm looking for, but Pally is very the opposite.
[00:11:01] Speaker A: He.
[00:11:02] Speaker C: He feels like he actively engages.
And the same with Cooper. Like, Cooper will do anything to get out of something he needs to do. As we've seen through Campaign 3, where I feel Pally is very much. He's very straightforward. He's very. He wants to help. He will do what he can to help.
So, yes, it is. It is very fun. I also played. I think, if anything, he's more similar to the wizard I played in the first tales story we did, which was Twig, who was the goblin.
Very eager professor who, bless him, did not get have a good time, his tales. But yeah, it's more that vibe. Just very, very much with Pally. He's a golden retriever, basically.
So he will doggedly do what he can to support the party. That is the plan.
[00:11:53] Speaker A: And is there any inspiration that you took for Pali, or is it very much just like. I've never played a character like this yet I want to play one now. Is there any inspiration at all?
[00:12:03] Speaker C: I would say, like, in home games, I've more leaned into this archetype. This, like, good boy. Wants to like the good boy who's like the more straight character in the group.
But I've been trying on, like, stream to play more different characters. So it's been quite nice to step back a bit into the roots and then explore what I've learned in actual play to make an interesting character from that archetype.
[00:12:36] Speaker A: Awesome.
Well, welcome, pally. Welcome to the team.
Pali. As you are lying on this grass, sort of just like embracing the feeling of not the limited nature in Ava more, but definitely sort of like the more.
More sort of like nicer, sort of like naturey parts of Avamor.
You. You suddenly feel like a sort of shadow appear over you as a.
As this sort of large dragon scent sort of figure sort of like peers down at you.
This dragon scent is. No one knew. You know him fairly well.
He is actually one of the priests from the Renengar shrine very close by a dragon scent who, you know by Nerius. Okay.
He. He's a very elderly sort of dragon scent. He's. His walking is very slow, but you know that he's been through a lot.
He has sort of like.
Sort of like grayish white scales that sort of go all over his face. A sort of like feathery beard that doesn't look like hair, it looks like feathers, but almost forms into the. Into the length of a beard and sort of very gnarled and rickety. Sort of horns. Well, I say horns. One of them has been obviously sort of like broken off, which, you know, happened during the war.
And he sort of looks down at you and you're not feeling any need to sort of like, rear yourself up or anything. You know that Nevarius is. Is pretty chilled. He's pretty chilled guy.
And he looks down at you and he's just like.
He's just like. Brother Pally.
Brother Pally. Oh, there you are.
[00:14:44] Speaker C: Oh, Helena. Various. How are you?
[00:14:47] Speaker A: Eat well?
I'm very well, thank you. You're in a beautiful day, is it not?
[00:14:52] Speaker C: Very beautiful, yes. Enjoying the sun.
[00:14:56] Speaker A: Yes. Renengar has blessed us. Blessed us today.
I. I do say that this. This visit to you. I Thought I'd find you here. This visit is not just one of pleasantries, I'm afraid.
I've. I've had word from an old friend and he is requiring some explorers to go and help him in the. In the town of Falstrom. Have you heard of it?
[00:15:26] Speaker C: No, no, no, not at all.
I. I think Pally will start getting up. The business means that he needs to get off of the ground. So he will, you know, minding Nevarius. He'll get up.
[00:15:39] Speaker A: Well, what.
[00:15:40] Speaker C: What do I need to know? Please fill me in. I'm happy to help.
[00:15:42] Speaker A: Oh, well.
Falstrom have been having some troubles fairly recently.
I don't know many of the details myself, but he did request that I send one of my.
One of my sort of one wrangler's finest followers.
And I know that you are brave and young and very plucky and I feel like you would be a perfect fit for. For. For the kind of people he needs.
Unfortunately, I. He. He only asked. I think he's looking to gather a bunch of other others from the Explorers Guild. But he just asked me to. To find one who I knew and I trusted and I thought you were. You would be the perfect fit.
[00:16:32] Speaker C: Well, you can count on me. Don't worry.
Of course. I think you'll like start making mental notes like false trim renning. Okay.
And thank you so much for the compliment, by the way. That's very kind.
I'll do what I can, obviously.
[00:16:46] Speaker A: Oh, I know you will. I have my full trust in you.
Yes, I think they plan to leave within a couple of hours. So I've let the Guild know that I've requested you head on over there. I would say head on over there now. I guess one of the things I always trust you with is that you're always ready. You're always ready. And we like that of you and your boy. Always ready for a good job.
[00:17:14] Speaker C: Oh, thanks.
[00:17:16] Speaker A: So, yes, let us know that you get there safe and look out for Bravin. He will be able to assist you on where you need to go next.
[00:17:28] Speaker C: Bravin. Fantastic. I'll go over now. Thank you again.
And he'll like very like confidently move towards the Guild. He knows exactly where it is. He's probably got there many a time from this location, giving a kind of very cheerful wave, like thank you again. As he like rushes through the park,
[00:17:48] Speaker A: he sort of waves you goodbye as well as. As the camera sort of follows. Sort of as the camera follows Pali as he makes his way over to the Explorers Guild, it zooms up to one of the, the tall towers that are known more for the academic works of the wizards and the mages that reside in them.
We, we zoom in and go high up one of its like, sort of like towering staircases until we hit a room where a Lorevar wizard is busy at work, sort of rummaging through books.
Julia, would you like to reintroduce your character?
[00:18:41] Speaker B: I would love to.
Back in the world of Explorers of Elsewhere is Lucretia the Lorevar wizard.
She is a sort of middle aged lady, long brown hair that she keeps in a long braid at her back, large glasses, very bookish type.
And yeah, she is busy at work in her tower, which is her, her favourite place to be when she's not out on a mission.
[00:19:15] Speaker A: And I don't think we had time last time because obviously it was on a stream and, and there was lots of things happening.
Was there a particular reason why you chose Wizard?
[00:19:27] Speaker B: I think I've played quite a few spellcasters before, but I tend to go more down the Bard Cleric sort of route.
I've never really played a significant wizardly or mage character in an RPG setting. And I think the Lucretia sort of archetype that I'm, that I'm going for is essentially sort of me. If I had studied a lot more like I studied quite a lot. I've always enjoyed learning and reading and things like that, but I never went down that like hyper academic road, like I said, of went out into sort of. I learned a lot and then I went out into the world and sort of did have done careers that have had practical application of my knowledge. I've never sort of never became a lecturer or anything like that. I feel like Lucretia is who I would have been if I had sort of followed that path a lot more studiously and been, you know, a fair bit cleverer than I, than I now.
So Lucretia's just me with a couple of traits tuned up basically.
Yeah.
[00:20:43] Speaker A: And what was, what's, what's Lucretia's sort of part in the world of elsewhere? What's her, what does she like to do as an explorer and what, what drew her to be an explorer?
[00:20:54] Speaker B: So Lucretia has always had a really big fascination with the natural world. And when the, when the Eskimo happened, of course the world totally changed and things got rearranged and new forms of life kind of appeared and I think it was too good an opportunity for her to miss. She wanted to get out into the world and become an Explorer, because she is somebody who really values novelty, learning, exploration, cataloguing this new world.
So that was her big inspiration. Inspiration for becoming an explorer.
And since the events of that.
That Halloween one shot where we. There were all sorts of spooky encounters involved, she's now gone beyond just being interested in the natural world, and now she has a special interest in the supernatural as well. And, yeah, all the sort of weird and wonderful otherworldly discoveries that are coming out since. Since the eschaton. So, yeah, that's kind of her.
[00:21:58] Speaker E: Her.
[00:21:59] Speaker B: Those are her special interests.
[00:22:01] Speaker A: That's her bag.
You've already said that. Sort of, like, a lot of her characteristics are very. Based on, like, if you like your own traits, like, turned up to 11.
Is there any other inspirations for her at all?
[00:22:19] Speaker B: I don't.
Not particularly.
When I role play Lucretia, I'm basically being Emma Thompson.
It is Emma Thompson as a wizard, basically. I think basically that is it, yes.
[00:22:38] Speaker A: And from the very little that you remember, what are you excited about playing Daggerheart again?
[00:22:44] Speaker B: Oh, gosh,
[00:22:50] Speaker E: I think.
[00:22:51] Speaker B: I don't think I rolled a single fear in that one shot, so I think I've got this nailed. I think it's gonna go really, really well.
I came away from that game going, don't know what you guys are on about. This is easy.
I think I've just got the knack. That's what I'm most excited about. No, no, no, genuinely, I.
I think I really like the sort of freedom to be creative in the gameplay of Daggerheart, and I want to sort of explore that a bit more in this series.
[00:23:28] Speaker E: So.
[00:23:28] Speaker B: Yeah.
And just. Yeah. Really looking forward to having you at the helm because I always have a lot of fun when you gm. And we've all seen the trailer, Nate. I am also slightly worried that this is gonna get too spooky.
[00:23:47] Speaker A: It will be fine. It will be fine.
[00:23:51] Speaker E: Okay.
[00:23:52] Speaker A: It'll be fine.
So, Lucretia, as you're. As you're thumbing through your books, do you feel like there's anything that you're particularly looking at at the moment, or is it just general study?
[00:24:06] Speaker B: It could be anything, because Lucretia's in downtime at the moment, so it's literally whatever she's currently interested in. I think it might be frogs today.
[00:24:15] Speaker A: Frogs. Yeah, the fun stuff. The fun stuff.
So, yeah, as you're. As you're thumbing through this new book that you've picked up from, like, the Large Grand Library, and you've been particularly waiting for this book for a while, to come in, because someone's always got it out. And it's.
How annoying is that?
You. You suddenly hear this massive sort of just like boom, boom, boom on your door.
But the knocking on your door is sort of. It kind of makes you jump to begin with, but then you relax as it's a very common sort of like booming on your door that you're very used to.
And you don't even. Like they bang on your door, but you know that you don't even need to answer it because they will just open the door as well. So you just shout.
[00:25:08] Speaker B: I don't think I look up. I think I just keep reading my book and go, come in.
[00:25:15] Speaker A: And the door sort of like swings open.
And at the sort of like at the foot of the door is a very familiar face.
This large wolfkin man with sort of like bright white hair and massive, massive fur coat.
These giant sort of frozen gauntlets sort of like over his wrists, just holding this massive kind of mystery meat sandwich.
[00:25:48] Speaker E: Fanya, I thought I was text.
[00:25:52] Speaker A: He's. He's been like cooking this for a while and he's gotten particularly sweaty.
[00:25:59] Speaker B: I wasn't expecting you for another two hours. What's happening?
[00:26:02] Speaker A: This is where I forget how to do. Vanya, I've got a channel down here.
I had it. I had him. I had him just a moment ago. Now it's gone.
He says, ah, Lucrezia, I brought you this sandwich that I made. I found this meat. It was like. I think it was called Snowy Bison Grovel, but I can't fully remember. But I brought it for us to eat together. I thought you would appreciate.
[00:26:40] Speaker B: Looks wonderful. And my goodness, that smell. Thank you, Vanya. This is.
This is a wonderful surprise.
[00:26:48] Speaker A: I see you can smell the extra vinegar chili that I put on it. I found that very recently. I found it round the back of the guild. I don't think they will miss it very often.
[00:27:00] Speaker B: Round the back of the guild?
[00:27:02] Speaker A: Yes. I found it in a bag, but it smelled okay, so I thought, why not?
[00:27:08] Speaker B: It. It wasn't round the bins, was it? Vanya, what do the.
[00:27:13] Speaker A: What. What do the bins look like again? I forget sometimes.
[00:27:16] Speaker B: You. You know those large containers with. I mean, you. You. You could.
[00:27:22] Speaker A: You'll be surprised, Lucretia. Some people throw away some very good and edible stuff there.
[00:27:28] Speaker B: Was it? Or was it sealed? Was the container. Container. Chili vinegar sealed?
[00:27:32] Speaker A: Okay.
[00:27:33] Speaker B: We're probably fine. Okay, Very well.
[00:27:36] Speaker A: Oh, and I've also got this for you as well. And he. And he sort of puts the sandwich down. And he pulls out a letter and he says, oh, it seems that the Guild wants you for something.
I. I said that I would go with you, but apparently I've been already called to something else, so I've. I've got to run away to that, I'm afraid. But maybe next time we can explore again together.
[00:27:59] Speaker B: Oh, certainly. And she gets up and walks across to him and takes the letter and opens it up.
[00:28:05] Speaker E: Yep.
[00:28:06] Speaker A: As you read through the letter, it says, you have been. You have been summoned to attend an explorer expedition in the town of Falstrom.
Please come asap.
And you can see that it's been dated today.
And it looks. And it's been, you know, it's been sealed by, you know, sort of like the mark of the High Mages. And so you do feel like this is fairly urgent?
[00:28:35] Speaker E: Mm.
[00:28:36] Speaker B: Oh, Vanya, I'm.
It looks like our dinner may have to wait. I'm afraid I'm needed at once.
[00:28:44] Speaker A: Ah. I'll wrap it up. We can have it later.
I'm sure you won't be long.
[00:28:49] Speaker B: I.
We'll see. You're welcome to stay. You know your way around the tower. Let yourself out whenever you need to. But I'll.
We should.
[00:29:00] Speaker A: We should send back. Got to run off myself. Apparently me and the guys were. We've got a very, very big adventure to go to. And as he says that, you suddenly hear this massive rumbling as you just hear.
Go off into the sky. Both of you run to your closest window. As you see one of the mage towers just flies off into the sky. And he goes. Oh, they left without me.
[00:29:34] Speaker E: Oh dear.
[00:29:37] Speaker B: Oh dear.
[00:29:38] Speaker A: We.
We pan away from. From the both of you looking out of this window as a mage tower soars off into the sky.
We come back to the ground and we. We path our way through the.
The streets of Avore more towards sort of like the merchant district along the. Sort of like the large river that goes through the middle of Av.
We come to a very small, quite ramshackled tavern where it's. It's quite dingy and dark and it's not incredibly busy because it's kind of middle of the day and there seems to be only kind of like a couple of locals who go there to drown their sorrows.
Sort of like. Like in this dusky, dusky bar, but sitting in the corner, sort of minding his own business maybe, sort of like taking a claw and sort of just like picking his teeth a bit.
We are introduced to a small.
A relatively small for his race, Dragon scent.
Livy would you like to introduce your character?
[00:31:01] Speaker E: So, yeah, I mean at the corner of this bar or this establishment you see the smallest dragon scent that you have ever seen.
He is just shy of five foot.
He wears a sort of a cowboy hat all the way down to his sort of. He's got little thick eyebrows under there.
And this is Beauregard Flint.
He is a interesting little man to say the least.
He's in.
He looks a little out of sorts in the current establishment. I mean he is wearing what can only be described as a sort of frontier esque outfit.
He has on sort of leather, like sort of leathery sort of rugged trousers. He has a little vest on and he's got some interesting looking sort of wraps around himself which have little sort of glowing cartridges all the way around.
And yeah, he's. He's a funny little guy.
[00:32:33] Speaker A: Funny little guy. So you've taken on a. You've played a dragon scent once which was a little bit. A little bit taller than Bo Ra.
[00:32:40] Speaker E: A little bit taller. A little bit taller. A little bit more curvy.
[00:32:44] Speaker A: A little bit more mummy.
[00:32:45] Speaker E: A little bit more mummy.
[00:32:49] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:32:49] Speaker E: I mean you.
If you're not new to the channel. I think everyone knows the two character types that I have. Which is domineering mummy or little. Oh, ratty. Ratty little boy or Abe.
[00:33:06] Speaker A: Where does Rari fall into that?
[00:33:07] Speaker E: Then there's a ratty little boy.
[00:33:09] Speaker A: Oh yeah, she's.
[00:33:10] Speaker D: Abe was mummy.
[00:33:12] Speaker E: Yeah, Abe was mummy.
[00:33:13] Speaker A: Yeah, he was baby girl.
[00:33:15] Speaker B: He was baby girl.
[00:33:21] Speaker E: So this definitely falls under small ratty and yeah, I'm excited. I think he's gonna be. I've had the idea of Beauregard for a long time.
[00:33:32] Speaker A: Because you almost bought Beauregard into to campaign three.
[00:33:35] Speaker E: I almost bought Beauregard into campaign three.
Dad's like, yeah, she did. She really did.
[00:33:40] Speaker F: And how Campaign 3 would have been different if you had a Cooper and
[00:33:44] Speaker C: Bo would have been the worst pairing.
Two little rat men causing all the chaos.
[00:33:51] Speaker A: I mean I'd love to see it.
[00:33:53] Speaker C: I'd love to see it. But also. Yes.
[00:33:56] Speaker A: So comment down below if you want to see that. All dragon scent game
[00:34:03] Speaker F: all the time.
[00:34:04] Speaker A: Yes. Sorry, Libby.
[00:34:07] Speaker E: So, yeah, and I.
He's. Yeah, he's going to be quite an interesting character to play, I think because he's a little bit more gray, morally gray than a lot of my characters. I mean, I know Abe wasn't, you know, the joy of the world, but
[00:34:25] Speaker A: he, he was just morally ambivalent.
[00:34:27] Speaker E: Exactly. He just didn't. He lived his own Life. But I don't think he ever sought trouble or infamy or anything. You know, he's minded business. I think Beauregard is a lot more.
Yeah.
[00:34:44] Speaker A: Complex.
Because what is. What is Beauregard's shtick? What is.
What is his history? What. Where does he land in the world of elsewhere?
[00:34:54] Speaker E: So without revealing too much about his character type, I mean, he is.
He is an explorer of sorts.
He has a side hustle, which is more of a main hustle, which. He is a bounty hunter and a man who likes or is paid to find people potentially dead or alive.
And he took that on from the war in which he was employed in the war to find deserters and other double agents and other people.
So he's very much.
Yeah, if he's getting paid to do it, he doesn't mind fighting people and
[00:35:42] Speaker A: putting them places, sometimes to other people, sometimes in the ground.
[00:35:48] Speaker F: Who knows?
[00:35:54] Speaker E: So, yeah.
[00:35:55] Speaker A: Yeah. Was there any inspiration for Beauregard at all, or were you just like, I need a rat boy now?
[00:36:02] Speaker E: Yeah, one just enjoy little chaotic guys in general and to.
I really like cowboys and that kind of stuff. And actually, like, one of the. When we're reading the. When the Dagger Rule set came out and they had Frontierland, I forgot what it's called.
I was like, man, I want to. Yeah, I want to play in that mat in that land so bad.
So I just made this guy and then I was just like, well, no one's gonna run the campaign, so I just have to stick him where.
[00:36:42] Speaker A: Stick him where I can.
[00:36:45] Speaker E: But I love all that kind of.
That aesthetic and all that kind of stuff. And.
[00:36:52] Speaker A: Yeah, way nice.
So Beau, as you are, you're sitting in this corner. No one is actually paying. Paying you any mind.
It is true that you do stick out quite a bit, but it's obvious that sort of like the people who are sitting at the bar, they are there for sort of like their own selfish intentions. They just are there to drink and not really pay any mind to anyone else who's there. That's why he's there.
You. You catch the eye of the barman who sort of like looks over to you and he just sort of like tilts his head and sort of flicks it back to a door behind the bar.
You don't ask any questions. You.
You've never been in this establishment before. But this is not a new environment. Basically. This is nothing new to you. You've been in situations like this before.
So you get up and you sort of head towards this door and you're led into just like this tiny little box room and in front of you is this law of our man.
Sort of like quite stout, big, big sort of black beard and big sort of like big head of hair, sort of like scraped back into a ponytail.
And he goes, and he looks at you and you've never met this guy before, but you know that this is the chap that you're meant to be meeting up with.
And he looks up at you and he goes, bloody hell, they weren't, they weren't kidding to say that you were short.
Blimey, no offense.
It's just an observation.
[00:38:40] Speaker E: Well, my daddy always said it's not to do with the size of the man, it's today with the size of the heart.
And he points at his heart, but then also the pistol on his, on his belt.
[00:38:57] Speaker A: The guy, the guy sort of looks at you and then notices that you've patted your, your pistol and he gives out a very big hearty laugh and he says like so he said, I've been told that you're, you're very good at the kind of jobs that we may have to offer you.
And an explorer, no doubt, that's, that's a rarity, I do say.
So I'm gonna, I'm gonna start you off on a little job. But don't worry, you prove yourself and I'll, I'll be sure that we'll get those, those big money jobs into you sooner or later.
And he gestures for you to sit down opposite this table.
And he sort of don't need a booster seat, do you? Don't,
[00:39:50] Speaker E: no. He sits on the, he bisexually sits. He sits on the top of the chair.
[00:39:55] Speaker A: He turns it round and then sits on top of it cross legged.
He pushes a sort of sketched picture towards you and just leaves it there sort of resting on the table and sort of just points at it. Says this chap right here, his name's a.
He's.
Let's just say he's been causing his family a bit of issues.
Big family, big Majani family. And you can see that this sketch is of a Majori man.
The usual sort of, you know, sort of like no hair on the head, horn, crystal horn still intact.
But you can tell that this is a fairly young guy with just sort of like grayish, grayish sort of white stubble on his face. Sort of like fairly, fairly sort of common for this young guy and a very sort of like determined look.
Apparently he's not very well liked by his family and who have business that Is none of my business, if you get what I mean.
But unfortunately he has been.
Been caught, let's say.
Well, let's not beat around the bush. Apparently, he murdered his brother, you see, and the family aren't too happy about this.
So they need someone with very specific talents. And not only very specific talents, but very specific travel arrangements. Arrangements to head over to the town of Falstrom and find him. Apparently, according to their moles, that's where he's headed off to.
If you are able to capture him. They have said, whether dead or alive, it's up to you how you're feeling.
I do believe it will be more if you bring him back alive. But if so happens that finger of yours gets a bit twitchy, don't worry. You'll still be getting paid.
Is that of any interest to you? My friend
[00:42:17] Speaker E: picks up the piece of paper, he just kind of studies it for a bit, then just calmly puts it back on table again.
Well, that doesn't sound very brotherly, if you ask me.
[00:42:34] Speaker A: Me? No.
[00:42:35] Speaker E: Family should be everything.
[00:42:37] Speaker A: I agree. I agree.
So I'll take it then. That means you are interested.
[00:42:46] Speaker E: Well, I'd say. I mean, is the interested parties good for the good? For the coin?
[00:42:55] Speaker A: Very good for the coin. I. I don't take up any sort of like, nonsense business myself, so I do know that this family is considerably wealthy and are good to their word.
And I think if you can do this for them, then I think you'll be in good communication with them.
[00:43:27] Speaker E: Is there any upfront ruminations?
[00:43:33] Speaker A: Unfortunately not, I'm afraid. But that is because time is of the essence.
But I. You can have my word. And I know that we've only known each other for the past five minutes, but.
But trust me, I'll be able to. To give you a lot of good jobs if you're able to do this one for me.
[00:43:56] Speaker E: Well, I mean, you're lucky you caught me at a. At a. At a dead end Stop at the moment.
It just kind of rolls up. This little bit of parchment.
[00:44:11] Speaker A: This is like so town of Felstrom. It's quite far away on foot, but I know that you've got access to them portals, so I think they need you to go asap. If you can find any of your little expeditions that you can go on.
[00:44:31] Speaker E: Once I've got the.
I've made contact with this man.
Is it you as the only contact? I mean, if I bring him back alive, is he coming back here?
[00:44:46] Speaker C: True.
[00:44:46] Speaker A: And he. He shuffles around in one of his drawers and he he pulls out a sending stone and he gives it to you and he says once you've got made contact and whether or not you've or not, you let me know and I'll be able to get some boys over to, to take him away and, and give you your, your payment,
[00:45:11] Speaker E: right?
[00:45:13] Speaker A: Oh, hush, hush. Of course, Fantastic.
[00:45:18] Speaker E: Takes a sending stone. Just kind of imagine he puts it in his pocket. There's like a jangle of a couple of sending stones in there. Like got a couple of things on the go. So you just hear, are they all dead?
[00:45:30] Speaker A: Are they all dead?
[00:45:36] Speaker E: He's just like, oh, better remember which one's which.
And then kind of dips his hat, just goes in the, and then leaves back out the bar door again.
[00:45:54] Speaker A: As, as you walk out of the bar, you don't stop to sort of like, like catch the eye of the barman or anything. You just walk straight out into the, into the streets of Avenmore and start making your way back to the Explorers Guild to see if there's anything that might be going on in the, in the town of Falstrom where you can get a, a nice easy undetective portal.
As we then follow your gaze over to the Explorers Guild, we find ourselves outside the, the mess hall.
The, the large sort of like ruckus of different types of explorers coming and going, Kind of shouting at each other. Bravado, one upping. Everyone can be heard through sort of like even with these large wooden doors, can be heard coming out and reverberating into the courtyard.
But sort of sitting out on like this walled area is this rather large wolfkin man just kind of sitting there, maybe sort of like peeling, just peeling an apple and sort of preparing that for him to eat.
Dan, would you like to introduce us to your character?
[00:47:30] Speaker F: Yeah, absolutely.
So I am playing Maiden who's an.
A somewhat older dark skinned wolf skin man.
He's kind of somewhere in his mid-50s.
The age like his age has experience is easily kind of identifiable through the sort of like the frown, the wrinkle, like the frown wrinkles on his forehead, the gray through his rather full beard and his now like completely balded head as he's sort of like carving into this apple.
There's like he's just kind of watching the comings and goings of people into the Explorers like hall and out.
And notably his left eye is actually like a, a round gray skin slate like stone with what appear to be kind of runic carvings, like concentric circle carvings that glow with this kind of yellow light and There are what appear to be three kind of runic stones that just sort of like hover and orbit around his shoulders. He's wearing kind of very utilitarian furs and hide armor.
There's a. It looks like a lot of the kind of. There's trinkets and ornamentation that he seems to have kind of picked up from his kind of travels.
But there's definitely an air of
[00:49:20] Speaker A: like,
[00:49:20] Speaker F: he's not a local.
So he sort of like looks around and perhaps there's an ever so slight kind of bad tooth sneer like. Like his L slightly pulls up as he kind of looks at some cavorting explorers kind of fall out of the hall and blunder into the streets of Averl.
[00:49:43] Speaker A: How does it feel to be a player now in a Dagger Heart game where it's not just a one shot?
[00:49:54] Speaker F: Yeah, no, this is good. This is good. I can get some time off.
[00:49:58] Speaker A: No, you don't. We know what else you're doing.
[00:49:59] Speaker E: Yeah, yeah, nice.
[00:50:02] Speaker F: I pretend I get some time off.
No, it's going to be good. I. Yeah, I. I'm so used to playing every character that it'll be good fun. It'll be a change to play one character, so.
[00:50:15] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:50:16] Speaker F: Yeah. And then I. I get to reciprocate all of the heartache that you. Campaign Trinas Campaign three is Delta me redirect them back. Back towards Nate. So I get to roll with fear and compliment people.
[00:50:34] Speaker A: So you have gone down, I think.
I think. Which definitely the two people who have played this class before is probably one of the most fun classes, which is the Guardian. The Tanky Guardian, months ago of being like, nothing could touch me.
[00:50:51] Speaker F: Sorry, Abe does what.
[00:50:56] Speaker A: What's your. What's your Sophia Threshold at the moment? Dan, currently.
[00:51:01] Speaker F: And I think it goes up if I want it to. It's 1932.
[00:51:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:51:06] Speaker E: Rookie numbers.
[00:51:07] Speaker C: Baby numbers.
[00:51:08] Speaker F: Baby numbers.
[00:51:10] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:51:11] Speaker F: No, I've like when. When it comes to, like, game like things. Yeah. I've always been a massive fan of being the Tank, and now that we've played so much Dagger Heart and I've seen how kind of effective the Guardian is at fulfilling that kind of fantasy, that power fantasy. So I'm really intrigued to kind of give it a go. But, yeah, there's a bit of a. I've put. I've put a little.
Little twist on it just to make sure that it's not a point, a Mark 2 or cow Mark 2, because, yeah, we've dashed in a little bit of a little smidge of Druid.
[00:51:50] Speaker A: Yeah, I think this is a really good time to say that we've actually started the characters off at level five just because I wanted people to have a chance to multi class if they wanted to. Because I think we only.
So I know that Cal and Alfric did a little bit of multi classing in the very brief sort of like one off in the finale, but I don't think any of Campaign 3 characters did any multi class. I wanted to give that opportunity to people if they wanted to do that. And obviously they can still do it in two. We're only going to go up one level in this whole campaign but hopefully if anyone else feels the need to sort of like move on to anything else they can.
So yeah.
Was there any inspiration for your character Dan,
[00:52:39] Speaker F: besides Jeffrey Wright?
[00:52:41] Speaker A: Yeah, besides Jeffrey Wright, Besides Jeffrey. And we have been calling him Jeffrey for most of the time.
[00:52:46] Speaker E: Yeah, I really apologize if I call him Jeffrey by mistake. The first couple of hours, three of
[00:52:53] Speaker C: our hearts, there was about five minutes where I didn't know what the character was called and genuinely thought his name was Jeffrey and no one corrected me for about a minute until I realized
[00:53:04] Speaker B: I assumed it was Jeffrey for about three weeks.
[00:53:10] Speaker F: So. Well, I'm being real careful not to say Jeffrey now.
So the, the inspiration for Maiden, sorry the character that is Maiden partially stems from the fact that I've acknowledged that when I am able to throw off the shackles of GM ship and like player character I. I tend to default into like deliberately or kind of consequentially comedic characters or sort of like light hearted characters ones that I can quote unquote like have a. Have fun with.
But yeah, I thought, you know, the elsewhere narrative is in a place where actually playing character that is quite stern, quite like quite serious. It'll be a massive change for me but it'll also be a suitable kind of view narrative viewpoint for the elsewhere, you know, post.
Post Campaign 3.
So yeah, it was. It's going to be.
It's going to give me an opportunity to try something new fundamentally.
Otherwise.
Yeah, there are a couple of like other other kind of characters I've based myrden on.
There's a definite vibe of sort like Old Man Logan from like X Men High, Lord Sao Fang from World of Warcraft, Estinium from final fantasy fantasy 14. Like these are all people that see the world in a particular way and they might be a bit resistant to change or things not being done that way. But you know, is there. Is there a soft squishy heart? Like is Maiden actually a baby Girl under all of this, all of the scar and scar and wrinkles we don't know.
[00:55:11] Speaker A: Answers point to. Yes,
[00:55:14] Speaker F: yes, that's, that's kind of, kind of where, where we're going for with that.
[00:55:20] Speaker A: Cool.
So maiden as you are, you're sitting there on this, on this, on this sort of like low stone wall, just sort of watching the comings and goings of these fellow explorers, if you can really call them that, if they're, you know, acting this way when you're looking at them in their free time.
Like how, how do they act when they're actually meant to be serious? How can you trust them really if they're, if they're like this, when they feel like their guard is down as, as you, you can, you sort of go back to your apple and you can, but you're hearing sort of like hones in on this sort of like, sort of like this guffawing laughter that you can hear behind your back.
And as you, as you sort of like, you don't even really turn around, you sort of just like pierce sort of slightly over your shoulder.
You can kind of catch in your periphery the. These, these three fairly young, probably like in their early twenties, mere pups to you explorers just sort of like laughing at each other, sort of like kind of pushing each other's shoulders, having some bance.
But you do notice that one of them sort of like points over his friend's shoulder and he points to you, notices you looking and then sort of just like draws his hand away and then just sort of looks his friends.
[00:57:06] Speaker F: Is there a joke that you want to share with me, boy?
[00:57:11] Speaker A: Oh, what, what, what did you say?
[00:57:17] Speaker F: I hopped down from the wall.
Sort of like walk around to an area that's easier to sort of like swing a leg over.
You just look a bit ridiculous with that grin. Dripping with your mother's milk.
[00:57:39] Speaker A: The, the sort of like you're talking to sort of like the biggest one in the group. This is like, no, this is nothing new to you. You know that. What you need to do is you need to pick out the biggest one who seems to be the most boltious out of the three of them. And it's this other wolfkin like kid and he's just like. And he tries to sort of like square up to you and he's like, what are those things flying around your.
[00:58:15] Speaker F: Mirdin? Kind of looks kind of casually up to these kind of orbiting like hovering runestones.
Well, they're not toys, so I don't know why they'd interest you.
[00:58:33] Speaker A: How come they let old fossils like you in the Guild?
[00:58:46] Speaker F: Because.
And like the lip kind of curls up slightly.
Someone still has to show welks like you how things should be done.
[00:59:00] Speaker A: I already know how things are done around here.
Any.
He. He sort of like he's a little bit now annoyed about you sort of like sort of talking to him like that. And he gets right up in your face. He's like what the is wrong with your eye as well?
Can you bloody see out of that.
[00:59:24] Speaker F: Midden like nose to nose. Just laughs and sit down boy. You couldn't fight your way out of a paper bag.
[00:59:38] Speaker A: As you can see sort of like this. This snarl appear on this young guy.
You.
You suddenly hear this sort of bark of an order from a commander behind you.
And he's just like.
He's just like Pandrin over here.
Get out of his face.
None of that.
And the bark has come from this.
From this keeper, this large keeper, absolutely hulking sort of like unit of a. Of a man.
Sort of very, very well sort of like shaven around the face, sort of like a very well kept beard and sort of like sort of like screamed out hair. Sort of like very short to the sides. It's very unusual for a keeper to be sort of like that, sort of like well presented. But it's obvious that he takes very much pride in looking as sort of like as militant as possible.
And he.
He walks up to the. To the four of you and.
I forgotten what I called the. The little wolfkin. The young Wolf King Guys.
[01:00:59] Speaker F: Pandron.
[01:01:00] Speaker A: Pandron.
The Pandrin sort of just like looks at you and just sort of snarls and he's just like.
He's just like.
Doesn't say anything. He's obviously like lost for words on what to kind of say and he knows that his anger is going to get the better of him. But it's obvious that he's just looking for a fight.
But after sort of being sort of like commanded by obviously sort of like head of what he does, he sort of storms off with his brigade of little friends.
This keeper who you. You don't really know the name, his name, but you've seen him around, you appreciate him as much as you can as someone who is sort of fairly militant around here and sort of like doesn't let sort of just like these drunken young whelps sort of just like go off and gallivant and do whatever they want.
He. He looks at you and he goes.
Mirrodan
[01:02:07] Speaker F: maiden's kind of watching the. The Trio leave as he's addressed, and then just sort of like to the Keeper, he says, I suspect that that one's quite a useful asset when his anger's pointed in the right direction.
[01:02:26] Speaker A: We're getting there. Yes.
Unfortunately, we do need to appoint the help that we can get, but some.
Some real action out on the field will. Will put him right, I'm sure.
[01:02:45] Speaker F: I grunt as I pop the slice of apple I've had in my hand in my mouth and crunch loudly.
[01:02:52] Speaker A: I've been. I've been asked by one of the High Mages to come and find you.
There is a particular explorer expedition that you have been asked personally to be part of. If you are currently not busy, I
[01:03:12] Speaker F: commend your good timing.
My coffers and supplies are running low.
[01:03:21] Speaker A: Fantastic.
It will be in the head to the portals.
It will be in the town of Falstrom.
You will receive information once you get there.
[01:03:33] Speaker F: Falstrom?
I've been there. It's a. It's a good place, an honest place.
[01:03:40] Speaker A: Interesting. One of the.
One of the only towns that didn't really get much affected by the Eschaton. I'm sure it's a very interesting place to see what actually happened during that period.
[01:03:58] Speaker F: Myrdden takes a big like. There's a big inhale at the mention of the word Eschaton. And if we were all so lucky.
[01:04:08] Speaker A: Yes, yes, indeed.
He. He sort of nods his head in appreciation. He says, like, I think the. The order is asap. So I will allow you to get your supplies and I'm sure an officer will be there to. To meet you and instruct you where to go next.
[01:04:30] Speaker F: Very well.
[01:04:34] Speaker A: We.
We forward in time a couple of hours to where it's obvious that the.
The people who have now been requested to attend the. The town of Faustrom have now.
Forgive me, Dan, I've completely forgotten what they call it with the portals. It is the Concourse. That's it.
So the four of you, um, approach the Concourse in all different sorts of sort of like very close to one another. Not really knowing that you are going to be part of these. This team.
I would probably say that Pali is there first.
Pally is sort of like. He is ready with his. With his axe and his shield.
He sort of like brushed all the time dirt off his tunic and he is sort of like. Sort of just like looking around, waiting for everyone to turn up.
Lucretia, you are the second one to turn up.
You do. Would you say that you know Pali at all? Would you have recognized Pali?
[01:05:51] Speaker B: Yeah, I think Lucretia and Pali know each other quite well.
Lucretia's sort of come across him a few times. First, she's been involved in various bits of training that he's had and yeah, I think they, they get on quite well. She feels quite protective towards him.
Theo, just remind me what. Pally is obviously a bit of a nickname. What, what would, what would she know his actual name to be?
[01:06:20] Speaker C: His full name is Palia.
So Paliasaganda is his first full name.
[01:06:26] Speaker B: And does he mind being called?
[01:06:27] Speaker C: Pally is fine. He likes. He doesn't mind. Whatever, whatever people want to call him. He is, he is a people pleaser. He. He will accept whatever he is called.
[01:06:38] Speaker B: Fine.
[01:06:39] Speaker C: So if she decides she wants to call him by his full name, he will take that. But if they, someone gave him a nickname, he would also take that.
[01:06:46] Speaker B: I, I think she normally defaults to Pally, but for a sort of initial greeting, she might, she might greet him as Paliar, I think. Yeah, fantastic. She's, she's, she's visibly pleased to see that. It's.
[01:06:58] Speaker C: I imagine that she'll be joining. It's not quite an excited wave because I feel like he, he feels like he's going to be in like, I'm in work mode.
But it is a very cheerful like wave of, of, of recognition and then a sudden hopeful of, oh, why is she here? Is it because perhaps we are traveling together this time? Because I imagine there's always a potential of like, oh, if I've seen a friend on the concourse, are we going together or are we separating off?
So it could be a kind of at first, like a wave of greeting and then are we hovering? Hovering, Are we going the same place? What's happening?
[01:07:38] Speaker E: So, yeah, yeah.
[01:07:42] Speaker A: So, yeah, as, as Pally, as you notice, sort of Lucretia. And then at the same time, obviously Lucretia notes and Pally, you're both waving to each other.
Murden, you, you see these two standing sort of close to the portal, sort of waving excitedly at each other. How do you feel? Do you. Would, you know these two and how do you feel about them? Sort of waving excitedly at each other like, like little children about to go on a school trip.
[01:08:14] Speaker F: I think there's an almost like internal kind of sigh of resignation.
But I mean, this is what all explorers are like, right? So I've, I've kind of, I think Maiden's now kind of just accepted that when he does do the occasional kind of job for the explorers, that this, this just comes with the territory
[01:08:43] Speaker A: and as you sort of just look at them and go, here we go again. Sort of feeling Beau, you are sort of just hiding out in the shadows of the concourse, looking at the portal that you know, that literally leads to Fahlstrom.
As you see these, you know that these three are explorers. You've seen them around and it definitely looks like that some sort of expedition is starting to develop.
And you walk over very confidently as if you have been also asked to be on this very important mission.
[01:09:26] Speaker E: Yeah, I think he just walks straight up. But as he's walking up, he's got like, like big smile on his face. But at the same time he's just kind of clocking to see if these guys are going to ask any questions. He's just kind of like, okay, we got big young guy, probably like super nice.
Probably, you know, he'll be fine.
Like old grumpy man fine.
Only one that gives him a little bit of concern is a sort of studious looking wizard that might be much more likely to. So he comes straight over to her first.
He's like, oh, my dear, my dear, my dear, how lucky I am to be in such a beautiful presence of such a beautiful lady.
Kicks her hand, she gives her a kiss.
[01:10:21] Speaker B: She immediately extricates the hand and says, oh, if it isn't the famous Beauregard.
[01:10:29] Speaker E: Oh, you've heard you.
[01:10:30] Speaker D: Me?
[01:10:31] Speaker B: Of course I have. Are you joining us on this little expedition?
[01:10:35] Speaker E: Oh, absolutely. I've been asked specially to come along.
[01:10:38] Speaker B: Oh, who was that?
[01:10:39] Speaker E: I needed our expertise.
[01:10:41] Speaker B: Yes, yes. Who asked specifically?
[01:10:44] Speaker E: Well, who asked you?
[01:10:49] Speaker B: I just show him my letter, which is, you know, has the seal and everything on it. Yes.
[01:10:55] Speaker E: Oh, I got my own letter, but I can't. He takes out the.
Just a piece of paper.
I've got my own letter, but I didn't write all on the qt. You know what I mean? I can't. Can't give away all my secrets now. Not right now, anyway.
[01:11:13] Speaker B: Well, it is good of you to join us,
[01:11:18] Speaker E: you know, big guy.
[01:11:23] Speaker F: Behind. From behind you.
Hello, Flint. It's good to see that you are.
Well,
[01:11:34] Speaker E: I got all my bits in the right places and.
Well, it's.
It's great to see such a friendly face on the team.
[01:11:46] Speaker F: Me. And flashes back to the last time we did a score together, if you could call it that.
And I can only imagine that the, the mage hunt that we were tasked with ended in the most ludicrously chaotic manner, all due to Beauregard.
[01:12:07] Speaker E: Oh, yeah, there was, there was. We're on, you know, riding on horseback. There was a shootout. There was other guys chasing us. It was. It was great.
[01:12:19] Speaker F: And Mirdon was stood in the corner watching all of this happen.
[01:12:26] Speaker E: Like one guy in a headlock or a dog on his arm.
[01:12:33] Speaker D: It went so well. It was flawless, Flawless.
[01:12:36] Speaker E: Always flawless.
And I don't think we've met. And he turns to Pali.
[01:12:43] Speaker C: Oh, hi, Palia or Pali. Nice to meet you.
For the record, I didn't get a letter. I was chosen by a priest. So matters. Whatever we're here.
[01:12:54] Speaker E: Oh, what a coincidence.
A priest, you say?
[01:13:05] Speaker C: Yeah.
Pleasure. He'll turn to Mirrodan. I. I think he will offer to shake your hand in a. Like, he knows a creature. He'll probably offer to shake Bo's hand as well in a very fast, formal, but very kind offer of greeting.
[01:13:28] Speaker F: If you. If you sort of hold the hand out and it looks genuine, Mirdin will sort of like raise his eyebrows in a little bit of surprise.
He's not used to the youngins being respectful and he then sort of nods and gives you a firm, firm handshake and Myrden Ygris, he says. And he looks to you, Pallie, and he looks to you, Lucretia.
I understand that the. The group of us are heading to Felstrom.
[01:14:02] Speaker C: Yes, that's what we've been tasked to do.
I think we've got someone waiting on the other side to give us a full debrief.
[01:14:17] Speaker F: Very well. Have you got. Have you respectively gathered your supplies? Are you ready for the journey?
[01:14:22] Speaker B: Ready as ready as one can be at such short notice, but yes.
[01:14:30] Speaker A: And as the four of you sort of like, see, one of the guards who sort of gestures himself gestures a hand towards the portal that will take you to the town of Ftrom.
We pan the camera through the portal and it. And it comes out into the sort of like this very.
This very sort of like large, large, well populated town.
People sort of walking around doing their. Their usual things, shopping, working, chatting to one another.
There doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary about this town at all.
Our camera will pan sort of to the west and go off into the forest, or what the people of Falstrom know as the West Valley Forest,
[01:15:31] Speaker C: where
[01:15:32] Speaker A: like a good number of people will do, you know, sort of like gather wood for carpentry, for. For fuel, for so forth. But it's also like a very. A very lustrous wood for.
For hunting game and also just collecting, foraging for berries, mushrooms and such like that.
And as we pan sort of like further into this forest, we come to like this, this very small, very humble, sort of like ramshackle of a. Of a hut.
And we sort of like, we. The camera sort of like lets itself in and inside we see sort of like a relatively older man sort of gathering firewood and sort of of like placing it by the fire.
A large owl sort of like sitting on the, on one of the sides of the chair of this chair, sort of like around sort of like what is obviously like not a greatly built table, but the best that he could do.
Georgia, would you like to introduce the. Introduce us to your character?
[01:16:48] Speaker D: Absolutely.
This is Virgil.
As you say, he is an older gentleman.
He's quite wiry, I think he's quite weathered looking.
He's missing most of his hair, but what he does have is white and kind of in like a little circle around his head. I think he tries to keep it quite neat. But he's in the woods, there's not much he can do. There's a little bit of moss in it. There's quite a lot of moss all over him actually.
It's quite clear that he's either made or like self made of moss.
Made of moss.
He's so resourceful.
He's got like a mantle of greenery around his shoulders to keep him warm. He's got kind of hessian clothes on, he's got sandals that he's made himself.
And as he, he builds this, this fire, he is, he's whistling cheerfully to
[01:17:46] Speaker A: himself as, as, as Virgil's sort of like whistling cheerfully to himself and he's sort of like prepping this fire, ready to start some cooking.
The. He is able to sort of like scratch some flint together and produce this fire. And as the glow of the light comes onto his face, you can tell the telltale signs of the red irises of a sanguvar.
[01:18:12] Speaker D: So you have mentioned he's a sangrava.
[01:18:16] Speaker A: You've taken on the sangrevar of this, of this short campaign. It seems like since the sangrevar were introduced in Campaign 2 that every. least someone, at least someone has to play a sanguvar.
[01:18:28] Speaker D: There must always be a dragon scent. There must always be a sangr.
[01:18:31] Speaker A: Yes, yes.
So you are like I guess, two sort of questions. You're playing what made you want to choose a sanguvar this time round? And also you are playing a beast bound ranger.
So what drew you to that class this time around?
[01:18:54] Speaker D: I took one look at Vinnie
[01:18:59] Speaker B: and
[01:18:59] Speaker D: I said I want, I want what Libby's having.
[01:19:05] Speaker B: No, I am.
[01:19:06] Speaker D: I was looking around at sort of classes I don't usually play in TTRPGs in any of these kind of games. I'm usually drawn to magic users specifically. I've played magic users exclusively in this game so far.
And I liked the idea of playing a ranger. I've never played a ranger before. And I think in Daggerheart at the moment, it's a choice between Beast Bound and Wayfarer Ranger.
[01:19:33] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:19:34] Speaker D: And just the idea of having a massive animal friend really appealed to me.
[01:19:40] Speaker A: And who is your massive animal friend?
[01:19:43] Speaker D: This is Brother Talons.
He's a big softy, really.
[01:19:53] Speaker A: Did you. Did you have any inspiration for Virgil? Because I think I remember you. I think remember saying you in the chat that you just wanted to play a pathetic little man.
[01:20:05] Speaker D: I always want to play a pathetic little man.
[01:20:09] Speaker E: Pathetic little men, powerful women and pathetic little men.
[01:20:15] Speaker D: That's how we do it. I think he's. He's very much. The more I've thought about him and the more I've developed in my brain, he's very much based on Merlin from Disney Soil Stone and Radagast the Brown, which I hadn't conceptualized until someone mentioned it. And then I realized, oh, yeah, no shit. I've just made Radagast Old man in Wood.
[01:20:35] Speaker B: The old classic.
[01:20:35] Speaker A: Old man in Wood.
[01:20:36] Speaker E: Radagast.
[01:20:39] Speaker B: And what's the owl like, Georgia?
[01:20:42] Speaker D: He's the angriest little man.
[01:20:46] Speaker B: The angriest little owl.
[01:20:48] Speaker D: Angriest big owl. I think I put a lot of points into Vicious.
[01:20:53] Speaker C: Yeah.
[01:20:55] Speaker A: I think I feel as a GM this is probably a question I should have asked. Can Brother Talons talk?
[01:21:01] Speaker D: I don't think they can. Can they? Animal companions. I took a note again from Vinnie and I assumed they can't talk. I think you can talk to them
[01:21:11] Speaker E: and they can talk to you, but they. No one else can. Yeah, but I never really wanted to get into conversation with Rayri and Vinnie because I just thought it would just.
[01:21:21] Speaker F: I mean, I really wouldn't be surprised if. If Vinnie could talk and he just chose not. Not to.
[01:21:28] Speaker A: Ray, anyway.
[01:21:29] Speaker E: For everyone.
[01:21:32] Speaker A: Yeah. Because I think when we. We spoke about Virgil before, obviously being like Merlin from Sword in the Stone, you obviously think of Archimedes who could talk.
[01:21:40] Speaker D: Yes, exactly. Yeah.
[01:21:41] Speaker E: Yeah. And has a lot to say.
[01:21:43] Speaker A: And has a lot to say.
So obviously the big difference for Virgil is that he is not an explorer. He is. He takes residence in the. In the. The West Valley Forest, which is just obviously west of Ftrom.
Is there any particular reason why he is out there?
Why he lives sort of like a Hermit life?
[01:22:08] Speaker D: Yes.
He used to belong to a monastery back during the war. That was what he did. He worshipped Gurgolden, one of the dragons, I believe. The dragon of nature and renewal.
Beasts.
[01:22:22] Speaker F: Yes, beasts and wild things.
[01:22:25] Speaker D: The wilderness.
And once the sanguvar goodness started happening that, that wasn't, wasn't so well liked in a monastery dedicated to a non arcane God.
So he ended up on his own, living quite happily in the trees in the forest.
[01:22:48] Speaker A: So Virgil, as you are preparing this, this fire and you, you're not even sat at the table, one of your favorite things to do is actually just kind of sit on the floor and enjoy the sort of the warmth of the fire. And you're just sort of like cutting up root vegetables that you found in the woods earlier today, preparing sort of like a nice soup that you can enjoy later.
As you, as you suddenly hear sort of like, like this sort of like rhythmic knocking on your door, it's much more lower down on your door than sort of like most people your height would actually reach
[01:23:33] Speaker C: you.
[01:23:34] Speaker A: You can't kind of tell who it is from the knocking.
Do you, do you sort of like answer the door? Is Virgil someone who's kind of a little bit wary of visitors?
[01:23:47] Speaker D: I don't think so. I think most things that he should be wary of in a forest aren't going to be knocking on a door as far as he's concerned. So I think he doesn't get up from the floor. He says, oh, come in, come in. The door's open.
[01:24:03] Speaker A: As you hear the little sort of like, you hear this sort of.
So you've probably made this door yourself and you know the little sort of tricks of it of how to get there.
[01:24:15] Speaker D: The reason he's sitting on the floor is cuz he can't do woodwork. Any chair that he's tried to make, it's, it's collapsed.
[01:24:25] Speaker A: And it's, it's almost like this door is just like a little bit too long and it sort of scrapes along the, the cobblestone of, of this hut that you've made yourself. And you just see as the light sort of brims in through the door frame, this little, this little sort of Terran sprite that sort of just is just like pushing the door open.
[01:24:50] Speaker D: It's just like, just give it a nudge, just give a bit of a kick
[01:24:56] Speaker A: this, this, this.
And as she sort of just like gets herself up and she sort of dusts herself down, she's just like this Terran sprite. You, you do know You've seen her a couple of times.
She is. Sorry, who is your dragon again? Golden.
She is also a worshiper of the golden and you've met her a couple of times sort of like out foraging and things like that and you've given each other sort of like a little little wave.
You're not. You're not like a stranger to the town or anything. Like people know you live out like there's actually a. A couple of like little almost in a way hermit huts throughout the forest.
Just due to the sort of like lush, the lush sort of foliage and the, the amount of fauna and creatures and nature that live in in these forests is very tempting to a lot of.
To a lot of people and I guess also a sense that like Ftrom have never treated you as an outsider for being a sanguvar. They've never sort of gone. They've never sort of like. Sort of like forced you out into the forest but you're just much more happier just living a very solitary life.
But this little sort of like she's sort of like a middle aged tear and sprite.
She sort of has like these. This sort of like pebble dashed freckles sort of like across her face and you can see that sort of like her. Her hair sort of almost, almost bundles and then rustles like grit in a way and she's just like. Oh. Oh Virgil. I'm. I'm glad I caught you at home.
I. I think I've tried to find. Find you one time and, and it took me a good day to find out where you were squirreling yourself away out in the woods.
[01:26:56] Speaker D: I. I go wandering all over.
[01:27:00] Speaker A: I know
[01:27:02] Speaker F: you're.
[01:27:03] Speaker A: I know this is very, very unusual but you're.
You're needed in town I'm afraid.
[01:27:10] Speaker D: Oh whatever for you.
[01:27:12] Speaker A: You see it's. It's. It's.
It's Braven.
And you know Bravan as the, as the mayor of. Of the town.
He's.
He's been taken sick with this. With this illness that's going around, you see. Have. Have you heard what's been going on?
[01:27:34] Speaker D: Have I heard what's been going on?
[01:27:36] Speaker A: You.
I've let you decide. Have you heard what's been going on? And I can tell imagine.
[01:27:41] Speaker D: I imagine if he's often in the town. He's not a stranger to it then I imagine. Yes he's heard at least whispers.
[01:27:49] Speaker A: You would have heard some whispers about strange figures over like the last month or so appearing on the outskirts of the East Valley forest. You very rarely go over that side.
That side of the forest was probably the closest that Falstrom got to the eschaton.
And while since it seems like, you know, it, it's settled down and it's sort of looking kind of normal, the forest has been absolutely ravaged with foliage and thorns and it makes it quite a.
Quite sort of treacherous to try and get through.
But it's. It's very recent that you're hearing these whispers that figures have now started sort of like being seen within the forest.
These sort of large, sort of tall shadows that no one has ever started, no one's seen before since, sort of like there. And it's. It's caused sort of like some.
The townspeople to be a little bit on edge.
And Mabella, who is the. Is the Terran sprite that you're talking to, she goes, They've, I'm sure you've heard the rumors about these figures. They've been sending, you know, some of. Some of the. The soldiers out, you know, some of the guards to see what it's all about.
And they come back. They come back different, almost withered.
Oh, and.
[01:29:35] Speaker D: Oh, that can't possibly be good.
[01:29:37] Speaker A: No, I.
They've. They've asked for explorers to come. They've asked. It's obviously serious because they've asked aver to come because now Bravan went out there, you see, and.
And oh, it's.
I don't know what they're doing, but obviously it's horrendous. You, You. You have been a healer yourself before, correct?
[01:30:01] Speaker D: Yes, yes, a little bit here and there.
[01:30:04] Speaker A: Well, I think we might need any. We need anything that we can get at the moment to see if we can at least, you know, sort of get them stable again.
Would you mind joining me in town? I'm.
And maybe we can.
Maybe we can help them in a way.
[01:30:25] Speaker D: Certainly, certainly. My hands and brother talons.
Talons are at your disposal.
[01:30:31] Speaker A: Oh, thank the gods. Thank you.
Please, if you're not too busy, could we.
I know that you look like you're just about to tuck into lunch.
[01:30:42] Speaker D: Would you like some stew?
[01:30:45] Speaker A: Maybe we can have some on the way if it's ready.
[01:30:47] Speaker D: Excellent idea.
[01:30:51] Speaker A: So as you. As you hurrily sort of like pack away your breads and your. And your little traveling cop with the Tupperware lid on and you. You stroll out the door with this small Terran sprite and bright other talons sort of like flows in behind you and you could. He can't. Obviously he can't talk, but you can just hear him go do like a huff as he follows you out
[01:31:23] Speaker C: the.
[01:31:25] Speaker A: You walk over, you're walking over with Marabella to this, to the center of Falstrom.
You know where actually the portal, the portal that goes to Avore has been set up under sort of like this big, sort of like pagoda in a way.
And as the two of you approach, you notice that then these four figures sort of like walk out of this portal and that's where we'll end Session zero.
And that will get you all ready for session one.
[01:32:05] Speaker D: Yay.
[01:32:06] Speaker E: Yay.
